Hyphae is also working as the civil engineer and landscape architect for the development of Esalen's 70 unit worker housing complex. With half of worker housing being destroyed by a fire in 2011, this terraced site east of Highway 1 includes Big Sur coastal topography challenges and opportunities. Hyphae's landscape grading strategy uses the terrain to gain southern and western sun exposure, while preserving views of the Pacific Ocean. Integration of sanitary sewer to drip dispersal will re-purpose waste water for year round irrigation of the private gardens.
